The New Forest Project

This newly launched Project offers landowners within the New Forest (including the New Forest Heritage Area and the proposed National Park Boundary) free conservation advice and assistance with securing appropriate sources of grants.

Free advice and assistance is available to any landowner or land manager who would like to integrate positive management for nature conservation as part of the farm or other business. Management suggestions can be tailored to encompass the whole holding or just elements of it, and wherever possible will be linked with Countryside Stewardship or other suitable grant sources. The Project is also able to provide small grants for one-off capital items to facilitate positive management or help secure agri-environment funding.

Examples of positive management may include developing a cutting and / or grazing regime for pastures and meadows to increase their nature conservation value, whilst still meeting the grazing need. Or, restoring and reinstating hedgerows and other boundary features.

Please contact Alison Fowler, Avon Valley and New Forest Conservation Advisor (Hampshire Wildlife Trust) for further information to arrange a site visit. Direct line number 023 80 688935; mobile 07773 355425 or email alisonf@hwt.org.uk

The Project is funded by the Cleansing Service Group through the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme, with support from the New Forest Committee.
